Top Tip
We stayed in March, and found eating out in the evening to be really difficult as there was nowhere around the hotel area. We walked down to the old part one evening and most of the restaurants were closed. We ended up eating in Burger King in the railway station. Salzburg is full of history, and for the Sound of Music fans there are tours to the various scences from the film and quite costly too. Salzburg was very costly due to the €uro and we found it to be the same cost as when the currency was the Austrian Schilling. We found the best buy to be a bayern ticket from the railway station which allows up to 5 persons on the one ticket costing €28 to travel as far as Munich or out to other areas in Austria. (That is if one wants to leave Salzburg for a day) We have ben to Salzburg a number of times for a day from the Tirol where we stay every summer, but actually staying in Salzburg in March was a very disapointing experience.

Top Tip
The walk from the hotel takes you through mirrabell gardens(sound of music fame)to the old city this is full of good restaurants and super shops.Although in our sixties the toy shops are a wonder for us.Also lots of concerts, music by Mosart.
