We really enjoyed the pitter keller restaurant at this hotel. If you are intending taking a sightseeing tour then Panorama tours were very good.

Good location, about 10 mins walk from Old Town. Although the hotel is clean it has a smell of smoke throughout the ground floor. The customer service offered by staff varied greatly from being very helpful to a bit curt - which was a shame.

We arrived in the morning after a very early flight but were not able to have our room until 2pm - make sure you ask for early check-in otherwise they are not flexible at all on this. The mozart dinner concert at St Peter is recommended as is the river cruise to the palace with the them park fountains.

hotel and staff were outstanding, just a 10min walk into town centre along the river, very pretty, especially in the snow.
not an ideal holiday for children, even struggled to find gifts to bring home for the children.

we did the sound of music tour which is recommended. The guide spoke throughout the tour with lots of interesting facts on salzburg, as well as showing us the places where scenes were shot in the film. There are lots of photo opportunities espiecially when you go to the lakes.
We also had a trip up the mountain in the cable car. Take the 25 bus on the opposite side of the road to the hotel and ask for the cable car stop which is the last stop, its 18 euros each in the cable car return, but well worth the views at the top, to see lots of snow! This was the hi-light of our trip,it was so nice.
A restaurant we visited twice was munderhammer(think thats how its spelt!) its a bit further up the road from the hotel on the same side the food is delicious there were quite a lot of austrian people eating there which is a good sign ,this was our favourite eating place. We read lots of reviews saying the cost of living in Austria is expensive, but we found the cost of eating and drinking in austria the same as the uk or slightly cheaper.
The cost of a taxi from the airport to the hotel cost us 11 euros, so on our return to the airport we caught the number 2 bus, turn right as you leave reception stay on that side of the road and you will come to the stop.It cost us 1 euro 80 each and took about 25 mins so its a lot cheaper and not far to the bus stop.We travel europe every february and this by far was the best weekend break we have had and hope to return next year.

Great location for seeing the sights of Saltzburg. Clean and very good breakfast to set u up for the day.
Top Tip
A must for any "sound of music" fans, do the sight seeing on your own and avoid paying 35 euros for a sight seeing tour that is mostly free anyway.

We stayed for three nights in the Crowne Plaza in Salzburg at the end of January 2008. We had a spacious room on the 3rd floor overlooking the street and though there was a lot of traffic, we hardly heard a thing. The facilities at the hotel were great, even a small pool, sauna, gym and steam room. Having spent the days sightseeing and early evenings at classical concerts, we would return to the keller bar (oldest in Salzburg apparently) and sit and chill with a beer before stumbling, yawning back to our room.
I think the hotel could do with a little updating regarding the decor but I believe they are starting to do this. Our bathroom was a little cramped, with a full size bath with shower over and a curtain. I think a large walk in shower would have been better to make maximum use of space but other than that we had a great stay.

Mozart Mozart Mozart! Everywhere you go. If you do nothing else, go to the Mozart Dinner Concert at the St Peter Stiftskeller, bookable at local agencies or online. For about £30 you get a three course meal, and a performance between each course, played by local musicians and singers in 18th century dress. Not to be missed if you like classical music (and even if you don't!).
Don't bother with the ubiquitous Mozartkugeln, these are little round chocolates which contain marzipan and nougat. Apart from being totally naff they are expensive and you can buy them in Aldi.
